CONTEXT
THE EDEN OF
THE EARTH IS DISAPPEARING. THE AMAZON IS BURNING AT A FRENZIED PACE
Vast expanses of Amazon rainforest vanish every year and, with them, biodiversity, fauna, flora, ancient cultures, knowledge, languages, ways of life, and beauty, much beauty, are lost.
The burning of the Amazon fuels global problems. We are losing the lungs of the planet, and we are getting closer to the point of no return in the climate crisis we are experiencing. And the health of all humanity, starting with the population living there, is at risk.
The causes of deforestation and fires are many, but perhaps the most important is the transformation of the jungle into monoculture fields to produce cereal and livestock that are exported to other corners of the planet.
WHAT IS MEDICUS MUNDI MEDITERRÀNIA DOING IN THE BOLIVIAN AMAZON?
OUR TRAVEL COMPANIONS
ARE AMAZONIAN ORGANIZATIONS AND INSTITUTIONS AND, ABOVE ALL, THE COMMUNITIES THAT LIVE THERE WITH WHICH WE WORK TO STOP DEFORESTATION AND CREATE NEW FORESTS
We work to prevent the Amazon from disappearing. We reforest degraded areas, boost the local economy in a sustainable way and support the health system so that it can provide decent health care to all inhabitants of the region. Our intervention contributes to improving the health of Planet Earth, the humans who inhabit it, the rest of living beings, and the ecosystem as a whole.
